A flurry of barbecues
After 19 years in Fort Greene, and 29 years in Brooklyn, it is time for a new adventure. We are moving to Madrid.
This week has been one of emotional upheaval. I knew the clock was ticking, and more than anything I loved entertaining at home, so I packed the calendar with dinners. I had 6 barbecues in 13 days. People thought I was crazy, which isn't unusual, but more than anything I loved having friends over for dinner, with good food and good conversation, lots of laughter and lots of wine.
As usual I couldn't have had a successful barbecue without Paisanos, on Smith Street. God I loved that place, a temple of meat. I couldn't fail at the barbecue with their chicken sausage and marinated steaks. Fool proof. People over the years praised my barbecuing, but it is hard to go wrong when the quality of the meat is so great. I nearly cried on my last trip to Paisanos. This is one of many things that I will miss about Brooklyn.
This week we were really lucky because our wonderful friends from Madrid, Ana and Murat and Mateo and Nur were in town, staying with us. They were perfect guests, and we are so excited to join them in Madrid. The picture below captures what I love about entertaining. Chaos and silliness and lots of empty wine glasses.
